Lost Hours Itch.io Page!


Lost Hours finally has its very own Itch.io page! I've shared its (WIP) GDD and my Design Commentary document, as well as some (very) early screenshots. Instead of posting the dev logs here for ones I've already released, I'm instead creating this summary to showcase all of the progress so far, and only new dev logs moving forward will have their own new posts here.

Development Summary

While this project has been an idea of mine since around 2009 (early high school for me), I finally ended up getting the tools and experience to begin building the game near the end of 2020. Thanks to Catsoft Works toolkit "Game Creator" for Unity, I was able to begin building my dream project, Lost Hours! It's been almost 4 years now, and Game Creator has evolved to Game Creator 2, which I am now using to build this project, along with a few other amazing Unity assets. Lost Hours has also evolved many times over the years, changing in design and overhauling many mechanics to reach where it is today. You can check the original dev logs from way-back-when to see how far the project has come!

Long story short, I'm not very good at C# coding, so I use Game Creator 2 (and all its modules) to build out this project, with a few custom C# solutions or alterations on the side (and the help of many other assets). The models are created using Ready Player Me, which is temporary until I create custom ones. The environment is built inside Unity using UModelerX, and the lineart renderer and cel shading is done using Flat Kit. I created trees and vegetation using Broccoli Tree Creator with my own cartoony textures, and I use MicroSplat for my terrain, as well as Digger. My UI is entirely custom.

Pre-June 2024 Dev Logs

When I started this project back at the end of 2020, I did full write-up dev logs, which were pretty time consuming. I decided later on to do more simple posts and make the main content a video showcasing development progress instead.
